PassPedestrians Prohibited
Where: At the beginning or entrances to any carriageway, lane, freeway, bridge, or path where pedestrian movement is unsafe or could interfere with vehicle traffic. Commonly placed at the entrances to highways (freeways), tunnels, major arterial routes, or restricted-access roads designed solely for motor vehicles.
Purpose: To prohibit pedestrians from walking or crossing on roads where doing so would be dangerous to both themselves and motorists, to maintain traffic flow and safety, especially on high-speed or limited-access routes where pedestrian presence can cause serious accidents, and to remind drivers that the road ahead is not intended for foot traffic, and therefore all movement must occur via vehicles only.
Action Required by Driver: Pedestrians are not allowed to walk, cross, or stand on roads or paths where this sign is displayed. Drivers, although pedestrians are prohibited, must still remain alert and be prepared for unexpected pedestrian activity (for example, in emergencies or cases of illegal crossing).
